Mario Pfeifer

Pfeifer

Born in 1981 in Dresden, Germany. He studied at the HGB Academyof Visual Arts Leipzig (2003-2006), the University of Arts Berlin (2005-2007), the Städelschule Frankfurt (2007-2008) and the California Institute of the Arts (2008-2009). Further grants from Goethe Institute and DAAD lead him to Bangkok, Mumbai and New York. Mario Pfeifer works with 35mm film and video installations. A continuum in his work are clear formal and thematic references to other artists and works, mostly from the 60′s and 70′s, as well as to fathom a thoroughly composed formal aesthetic, which he expands onto the exhibition space’s architecture. He came to Mumbai last year on a Goethe Institute grant, where he shot in 35mm one of his most extensive video work, A FORMAL FILM IN NINE EPISODES, PROLOGUE & EPILOGUE (2010).

Further Exhibitions at Los Angeles County Museum of Art, KW Institute of Contemporary Art Berlin, KOW Berlin and Andrew Roth, New York as well film screenings at Anthology Film Archives New York, Museum of Art and Design New York, Cinematheque Toronto, Centre Pompidou Paris, Reina Sofia Madrid, Folkwang Museum Essen. In 2012 he will be artist-in-residence at ISCP, New York.
